At least 60 House Democratic candidates raised more than $1 million in the third quarter, from July to Sept. 30, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said Monday night, including eight candidates who raised more than $3 million. In the closest 45 House races, the Democrat has outraised the Republican in 32 by a combined margin of $46 million, and Democratic Senate candidates have raised $212 million to the GOP's $164 million this election cycle. Even vulnerable Democrats like Sens. Jon Tester (Mont.) and Claire McCaskill (Mo.) are raising much more than their challengers. The Democratic windfall is driven by small-money donors, but GOP mega-donors, notably casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, are helping even things out by eight-figure donations to Republican super PACs. FEC filings for the latest quarter were due Monday at midnight.
