Beer: Milkshake IPAs
So-called milkshake IPAs are popping up everywhere, and “many of them are just plain bad,” said Jim Vorel in PasteMagazine.com. Milk sugars have been added to all of them, which is fine, but those that also include fruit and spices are often overdone. These three are outliers—each different but balanced, and “actually sort of great.”
Odell Brewing Co. Cloud Catcher This creamy, elegant ale from Fort Collins, Colo., gets its apricot notes from hops alone, and “it drinks effortlessly.”
Funky Buddha Brewery Tart Shake Few others balance tartness and creaminess “quite as ably” as this Florida brew.
WeldWerks Piña Colada Milkshake Many thanks to Greeley, Colo., for surprising us with this subtly fruity brew. “If every milkshake IPA could be this good, we’d have beer for dessert every night.” ■
