The original Star Wars trilogy is heading back to movie theaters this summer

More than 30 years after the release of its final chapter, the original Star Wars trilogy is headed for the big screen again. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has announced a special limited run of "Return of the Trilogy" screenings, playing the first three Star Wars movies — Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi — in cities all over the country throughout August. (And before you ask, let's get the bad news out of the way: The screenings will consist of the 1997 re-release cuts, not the originals, so Han Solo will not shoot first.)

The original Star Wars trilogy played in theaters in December 2015, but the chance to see the originals on the big screen came with a huge catch: They were only available as part of a special "Star Wars Marathon" screening, which played both the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy immediately before a midnight screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. For fans who want to see the original trilogy without being reminded that Jar Jar Binks exists, this is the screening you're looking for.
